Why mediation works

Mediation gets people talking to each other so they can get back to working together.  It builds bridges and repairs working relationships.  It’s effective because it puts the participants in the driving seat.

Mediation works because it is:

  • Voluntary: participants can see the opportunity to turn things around for themselves
  • Safe: participants can speak their minds and hear each other
  • Confidential: participants can speak freely without fear of repercussions
  • Free of blame: there’s time and space to come to a better mutual understanding and to find a way forward

Participants create their own agreement so they have an investment in its success.

Handled with skill, conflict can be a positive opportunity for growth and development.

Use mediation to get people talking again and protect the reputation of your organisation.

Mediation can offer colleagues in dispute a way forward:

  • before any formal process has taken place
  • after a formal process has failed to resolve matters
